ABC and PSP Pave Way Forward For Sports Communications

Two clicks, a flick of the finger and a snap of the camera seemed a simple task for a communications officer in the beginning. However today's changing world means that the old communications directive is now all wrong, a fact that Aaron Kearney, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and The Pacific Sports Partnerships (PSP) mentor, managed to teach 8 national federations last month.

Kearney, a former Television Host, Radio Host and sports writer, spoke of the importance of making things "exceptional but relatable" in his recent workshop. Participants from National Federations including Vanuatu Cricket, Vanuatu Tennis and The Vanuatu Aquatics Federation all partook in the three day course with the aim of improving their communications skills.

Jamal Vira, VASANOC`s Communications Officer, relayed the importance of such workshops saying,

"We are very lucky to have Aaron come to Vanuatu through PSP and ABC to help our NF`s ability to engage more in their Media and Communications"

"It's never easy now a days as communications is almost a full time job for all our sports, and with many lacking funding, courses such as this one help each NF apply practical and basic skills to help improve their Communications "

"There are so many things that even the best of us in communications could have learnt from Aaron and I am very happy with both the turnout of NF`s and the information being taken in by them which I really hope can be implemented by them"

The workshop covered aspects of Social Media, writing media releases, photography, video making and most importantly vertical communications all of which were of practical importance to the National Federations that attended which was formalized with a certificate of completion.

VASANOC would also like to take this opportunity to thank Nancy Miake from The Vanuatu Aquatics Federation and the Oceania for the hard work she put into making this workshop possible as well as to PSP, ABC and of course Aaron Kearney for a fantastic three days.
