“I am looking forward for another medal winning history for Team Vanuatu in this upcoming Pacific Games. 10 Gold, 20 Silver and 10 Bronze is what I will be expecting from this team,” Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Seoule Simeon said.
The Minister made the statement during the bonding session for athletes at the Korman Sports Complex in Port Vila.
The Government has fully committed itself to ensure that a larger number of athletes must travel to Samoa for the Games as well as ensure funds are provided for each participating NFs for their training, therefore Medal winning should be a priority for each athlete to must also fully committed themselves.
Team Managers and Coaches must also support athletes in their trainings to ensure that athletes have the mindset of ‘Aiming to win a Medal’. The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has also confirmed that incentives will be provided for outstanding performing athlete.
“We want Vanuatu to increase its number of medals in this Pacific Games compare to the past Games”, Minister Simeon said, encouraging the athletes.
A number of activities has been undertaken on that day for participating athletes to socialize and familiarize themselves prior going to Samoa.
A lunch together was provided by the Ministry at the end of the bonding session.
Not all athletes attended the bonding session, however, we are hoping to see their commitment in the Team Vanuatu Parade today (Saturday).
In related news, Minster Simeon will also be leading the VIP delegation to Samoa along with the Minister of Education and Training, Jean Pierre Nirua, MP Marcellino Telukluk, Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Henry Vira, Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Martin Mahe, Ruben Tafau from the Ministry of Finance and First Political Adviser to the Minister of Youth and Sports, John Nalwang.
A total number of 160 athletes, 40 Coaches and Team Managers, 21 Admin Staff and supporting team, 7 VIPs will be travelling to Samoa for the Games.
Team Vanuatu Parade Today
VASANOC and the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports will be organizing the Team Vanuatu Parade for the 2019 Samoa Pacific Games today in Port Vila.
The Parade will be led by the Vanuatu Mobile Force Brass Band commencing at around 9am from the Grand Hotel Parking, through the town Centre turning at the Chew Store through the highway and back to the Sea Front Stage where all activities will be staged.
According to the program, Chief Executive Officer for VASANOC, Henry Tavoa will be delivering the welcome remarks and Director General for the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Henry Vira will be presenting the team presentation to everyone.
Speeches for today will be delivered from an athlete representative and from the main Guest Speaker of the Day.
The declaration of the Team Vanuatu Flag Bearer from the VASANOC President, Mr Antoine Boudier and presentation of the Flag to the Flag Bearer will also happen today.
VASANOC and the Ministry are urging all coaches and team Mangers to ensure all athletes must attend and be on time for the parade, saying “We are expecting everyone to be at the Parade”.

The Master of Ceremony (MC) will be Mr. Vira Edward Taivakalo- Senior Youth Employment Officer from the Department of Youth Development and Sports.
