Vanuatu Beach Volleyball will be competing for Team Vanuatu at the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games in Doha, which run from the 12 – 16 October. The ANOC World Beach Games is a multi-sport event featuring all non-Olympic events, with a goal of connecting National Olympic Committees and fans around the world and bringing a different range of sports to a wider audience.
Vanuatu will be sending a 4x4 beach Volleyball team including Ravo Maybel, Tebeim Luduine, Toko Sherysyn, Joe Loti, Lawac Majabelle, Willie Chantale Leow and Coach Zunker Shanon, who will be joining 1237 athletes from 97 countries in the Qatar capital. The pool rounds begin on the 12th of October with Vanuatu`s first match up against Canada.
Shersyn Toko, Vanuatu`s Pacific Games Gold Medalist, continues to impress and has this time been given the flag bearer duties for the upcoming Beach Games with the young star hoping to add another medal too an already stellar trophy cabinet.
"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm so proud to be able to represent Vanuatu let alone to be the flag bearer" said Toko. "We will do the best we can to succeed and make Vanuatu proud".
The Beach Games programme includes a mix of beach, water and action sports with 3x3 Basketball, Kitefoil Racing, Open Water Swimming (5Km), Aquathlon, Karate Individual Kata, Beach Wrestling, Beach Tennis, Beach Soccer, Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball, Bouldering, Skateboarding, Waterski Jump and Wakeboard all expecting world-class fields.
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg, said:
“The arrival of some of the best beach athletes in the world has created a new level of excitement for the Games. It is now only a matter of days until the start of the Games and the sense of anticipation and enthusiasm amongst all stakeholders is palpable.
“The Games are connecting NOCs with an entirely new set of elite national athletes and providing a global platform to connect these new stars and new sports with a new generation of sports fans. I would like to wish the best of luck to all athletes, coaches and officials involved in the Games.”
The ANOC Beach Games opening ceremony begins on 12 October.
ANOC is an umbrella organisation for the National Olympic Committees around the world.
