Over 200 athletes and officials bound for the Samoa 2019 Pacific Games will parade through Port Vila town today.
The parade is an event that happens every time a large contingent of Vanuatu athletes depart for the Pacific Games and is a chance for the public to see the athletes before they leave.
The parade is set to begin at the Port Vila market house at 9am and move through town to Seafront stage where they will be greeted by dignitaries, including the Prime Minster and the Minster of Youth and Sports who will officially launch Team Vanuatu as Games Ready.
“The parade is something all the athletes and public always look forward to.
“It’s not often you get to see our most elite sports men and women gather together to promote sport and excellence in sport.
“It’s also not often the public also get to acknowledge so many athletes together in one place at the same time either, and it’s a great chance for families, friends and the wider general public to see who will be representing our flag and our nation as Team Vanuatu in Samoa,” said Team Vanuatu Chef De Mission, Williams Worworkon.
He continued: “VASANOC and the Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Director General and his staff have been great and for the public to be able to see the investment of the government through the athletes in person is fantastic.
“As an athlete knowing that you have so much support behind you can make be the difference between Gold and Silver sometimes so let’s make this a morning to remember for them as well.”
With 14 sports disciplines set to board the Air Vanuatu charter flight on the 4th of June, VASANOC encourages all sports fans and family members to take part in what will be a fantastic morning.
