VASANOC hosted for the first time an open day to schools and public on the 31st of March 2021. The first school to take part of this experience is Onesua Presbyterian College.
The students arrived at 9am and stayed until 2pm. They were welcome by the President of VASANOC Antoine Boudier who made a speech encouraging young people to practice a regular physical activity and explained the role of VASANOC in sports life in general. He introduced the VASANOC staff to the visitor and after that officially declared the doors of VASANOC Haos open.
The students could visit and admire VASANOC trophies exhibited on the Conference Room. There were Awards received from the International Olympic Committee such as 2019 IOC Women and Sports Trophy for Oceania to Vanuatu Beach Volleyball, or medals from the Vanuatu Pacific Mini Games 2017, invitation to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 … The small VASANOC museum made children eyes bright and made them believe that anything is possible.
A small exhibition that explains what the Olympic movement and values is, was exposed in the corridor to guide the visitors into the second room. This second room would show several images such as old pictures of Team Vanuatu delegations through different international games, old articles from newspaper, athletes’ portraits and VASANOC history and role.
Some National Federation were also present to introduce themselves to the public and show their programs. Indeed we would like to thanks the AFL, Table Tennis and Volleyball Federations which answered positively to our invitation and did a great job on the ground.
We would also like thanks the speakers who take from their personal time to come and share their experience. Thanks to Mary-Estelle Mahuk, Joshua Shing, the members of the Medical Commission and Rilio “Rio” Rii.
Through the day, visitors could also enjoy videos clip about Vanuatu Pacific Mini Games 2017, highlight of Olympic Games, best Olympics’ moment, and even watch memorable races of Mary-Estelle Mahuk at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
