Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November, the Seminar on the theme of medicine in sport took place at the Grand Hotel in Port-Vila.
This event organized by VASANOC was made possible thanks to Olympic Solidarity funds from which VASANOC benefits as the National Olympic Committee, as well as the recently reformed medical commission.
The aim of the medical commission is to guide organizations and athletes in Vanuatu on matters of health, sport and well-being so they can benefit from the best possible tools in high-level competitions.
This seminar began with a welcome speech by the President of VASANOC Mr. Antoine Boudier and the Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Henry Vira as well as a prayer guided by our Sport Development Officer, David Lolo.
The CEO of VASANOC, James Malau then introduced the workshop. The first speaker was Dr Trevor Cullwick, who recalled the role of the medical commission and introduced its members. He is also the interim chairman of the newly reformed commission.
Dr.Basil Leodoro, a general surgeon from Pentecost, was the second speaker of the day. He updated the audience regarding the COVID-19.
The rest of the day was punctuated by debates in which representatives of the federations were able to participate. They were able to benefit from each other's knowledge while having the floor to share their experience, which allowed everyone to exchange and debate in a cordial way.
The second day was also punctuated by the interventions of the different doctors addressing themes such as how to manage the COVID-19 protocol as a National Federation or nutrition and sport.
The sport medicine seminar is the first of more programs to follow in an attempt to increase awareness and better educate our coaches and managers on athlete training, growth and progress.
The VASANOC would like to thanks the speakers: Dr Basil Leodoro, Dr Jimmy Obed, Dr Trevor Cullwick, Albert Kaiapam, Annie Tamata, Leitare Raubani and Ana Silas. Also we would like to thanks the participants of this successful seminar.
